Associate Researcher
Yi Zhang is an Associate Professor at Institute of High Energy Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and the leader of the Beamline Software Team in the Beamline Testing and Control Division of High Energy Photon Source (HEPS).
In 2016, Zhang received his PhD in Biomaterials from Queen Mary University of London. He worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the P06 Hard X-ray Micro/Nano-Probe Beamline of Deutsches Elektronen-Synchrotron (DESY) from March 2016 to March 2018.
His main research interest includes scientific software systems, experimental control and data acquisition, artificial intelligence, X-ray diffraction and imaging. He is also dedicated to algorithm research and optimization of experimental methods such as X-ray diffraction and scattering, nano-imaging, coherent diffraction imaging, etc. He has published the work on globally renowned journals such as Nature Reviews Physics, npj Computational Materials, IUCrJ, and Journal of Synchrotron Radiation.
Under his leadership, the Beamline Software Team of HEPS successfully developed the experimental control and data acquisition software framework (Mamba) for next-generation synchrotrons. Mamba is designed to fully leverage the capabilities of HEPS when conducting high-throughput, multimodal, and time-resolved experiments with dynamic loading processes. The team also developed the big data orchestration and management system Mamba Data Worker (MDW) to address the imminent challenges on Exascale data processing and management. Currently, he is dedicated to adopting powerful AI algorithms into beamlines to achieve beamline intelligence.
